Description
England, c1890. Original Antique hand fan with Honiton bobbin motifs around the edges... flowers that look like round gobs with thin loops of bobbin work for the petals. The inside motifs are narrow ribbons that may be bobbin-made filled in with needle stitches. The joining bars are probably hand braided "joins" as in Honiton, since the picots tend to be in the centers of the spans, not randomly picoted, as one would expect from yardage picot ribbon (Battenburg style). The sticks and guards are white irridescent mother of pear. The intact rivet holds a plain brass ribbon loop. Framed in plain gilt fan-shaped frame with apricot backing. Honiton lace is a type of bobbin lace made in Honiton, Devon. Historical Honiton lace designs focused on scrollwork and depictions of natural objects such as flowers and leaves.
